Here&#8217;s what we need to do:<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n1. Connect to the serial console port of the switch (make sure to use correct Brocade cable as typical Cisco console cable will not work).<br \/>\n2. Power on switch<br \/>\n3. When promted to stop test or stop AutoBoot, press ESC.<br \/>\nThe Boot PROM menu is displayed with the following options:<br \/>\n\u2022 Start system<br \/>\nUsed to reboot the system.<br \/>\n\u2022 Recover password.<br \/>\nUsed to generate a character string for your support provider to recover the Boot PROM<br \/>\npassword. Use this feature only when directed by technical support personnel.<br \/>\n\u2022 Enter command shell.<br \/>\nUsed to enter the command shell, to reset all passwords on the system.<br \/>\n<code>Checking system RAM - press any key to stop test<br \/>\nChecking memory address: 00100000<br \/>\nSystem RAM test terminated by keyboard<br \/>\nset_bootstatus: BS_LOAD_OS, platform_idx = 6<br \/>\nHit ESC to stop autoboot: 0<br \/>\n1) Start system.<br \/>\n2) Recover password.<br \/>\n3) Enter command shell.<br \/>\nOption?<\/code><br \/>\n4. Type 3 at the prompt to open the command shell:<br \/>\nOption? 3<br \/>\n5. Type the Boot PROM password, if prompted, and press Enter.<br \/>\nThe Boot PROM has a password only if one was defined.<br \/>\nNOTE<br \/>\nIf you are prompted to enter a new Boot PROM password, make sure it is at least 8 characters<br \/>\nin length. Do not select this option unless specifically instructed by support personnel.<br \/>\n6. To change the \u201cOSLoadOptions=quiet;quiet\u201d setting so that the switch boots into single user<br \/>\nmode, enter the following command:<br \/>\n<code>Fabric OS Password Recovery Notes 9<br \/>\n53-1000114-05<br \/>\nPassword recovery using the Boot PROM interface 1<\/code><br \/>\n=> <strong>setenv OSLoadOptions &#8220;single&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>\n7. Enter the printEnv command to verify the change:<br \/>\n=> <strong>printenv<\/strong><br \/>\n<code>AutoLoad=yes<br \/>\nBootromVerbose=no<br \/>\nInitTest=MEM()<br \/>\nLoadIdentifiers=Fabric Operating System;Fabric Operating System<br \/>\nOSLoadOptions=single<br \/>\n(output truncated)<\/code><br \/>\n8. Save the changes:<br \/>\n=> <strong>saveenv<\/strong><br \/>\nSaving Environment to Flash&#8230;..Done<br \/>\n9. Enter the boot command with no parameters to bring up the device in the single user mode:<br \/>\n=> <strong>boot<\/strong><br \/>\n<code>Map file at LBA sector 0x17da68<br \/>\n## Booting image at 00400000 ...<br \/>\n(output truncated)<\/code><br \/>\n10. Enter the mount command with the following parameters to remount the root partition as<br \/>\nread\/writecapable:<br \/>\nsh-2.04# <strong>mount -o remount,rw \/<\/strong><br \/>\n<code>EXT3 FS on hda1, internal journal<\/code><br \/>\n11. Mount the secondary partition.<br \/>\nIf the previous command returns hda2, then use hda1 in this command. If the previous<br \/>\ncommand returns hda 1, use hda2.<br \/>\nsh-2.04# <strong>mount \/dev\/hda2 \/mnt<\/strong><br \/>\n<code>kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds<br \/>\nEXT3 FS on hda2, internal journal<br \/>\nEXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.<\/code><br \/>\n12. Enter the passwddefault command to reset all passwords to default values as follows:<br \/>\nsh-2.04# <strong>\/sbin\/passwddefault<\/strong><br \/>\n<code>All account passwords have been successfully set to factory default.<br \/>\nIf additional user accounts existed, they are deleted. Only the default accounts and passwords<br \/>\nremain.<\/code><br \/>\n13. Reset the OSLoadOptions to \u201cqueit;quiet\u201d:<br \/>\nsh-2.04# <strong>bootenv OSLoadOptions \u201dquiet;quiet\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n14. Reboot the switch using the reboot \u2013f command.<br \/>\nsh-2.04# <strong>reboot -f<\/strong><br \/>\nTraffic flow resumes when the switch completes rebooting. If you do not use the \u2013f option you<br \/>\nwill have to manually reboot the switch.<br \/>\n15. Log in with admin account using default password.<br \/>\nThe password recovery procedure is now complete.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we need to reset configuration to factory default:<\/p>\n<p>1. Disable switch<br \/>\n><strong>switchdisable<\/strong><br \/>\n2. Disable config<br \/>\n><strong>cfgdisable<\/strong> (hit &#8220;y&#8221; at prompt)<br \/>\n3. Clear config<br \/>\n<strong>cfgclear<\/strong> (hit &#8220;y&#8221; at prompt)<br \/>\n4. Save clean configuration<br \/>\n><strong>cfgsave<\/strong> (hit &#8220;y&#8221; at prompt)<br \/>\n5. Reset configuration to default<br \/>\n><strong>configdefault<\/strong> (hit &#8220;Y&#8221; at prompt)<br \/>\n6. Re-enable switch<br \/>\n><strong>switchenable<\/strong><br \/>\n7. Reboot to activate changes<br \/>\n><strong>reboot<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And finally we need to change management IP address with the following command<br \/>\n><strong>ipaddrset<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This procedure was tested with Fabric OS 7.4.1c<br \/>\nDefault passwords for Fabric OS:<\/p>\n<p>admin\/password<br \/>\nroot\/password<br \/>\nroot\/fibranne<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s say you purchase a couple of 300s on the Ebay and someone forgot to reset config but you can&#8217;t get in as all default passwords got changed.
